A Native American 8(a) federal contracting consulting firm has partnered with an AI security company to pursue Department of Defense (DoD) contracts.

Creeksource Consulting LLC, a Muscogee Creek Nation-owned firm, has partnered with Atlanta-based ScanTech AI Systems, according to the news release issued by the publicly traded firm. The partnership aims to leverage tribal preferences available to Creeksource in order to sell ScanTech's proprietary combination of machine learning and scanning technology for use across the DoD.

ScanTech's scanners use artificial intelligence to identify potential threats and items of interest at security checkpoints. The company's CEO, Dolan Falconer, emphasized the technology's potential application for protecting military installations.

Creeksource CEO Jamai Banks said the partnership would help streamline federal procurement through sole-source contracts “to protect our nation’s military installations.”

The collaboration comes as ScanTech faces significant financial challenges, according to a report in Investing.com that notes ScanTech’s weak profit margins and substantial debt obligations. The NASDAQ-listed company’s stock closed Friday at $1.71, down from a high of $11.38 last December.

Native American companies secured more than $23.3 billion in federal contracts in fiscal  2023, according to prior Tribal Business News reporting. The DoD accounts for approximately two-thirds of this contracting activity.

However, under a move by the Trump administration to shift federal procurement under the General Services Administration, the future of the 8(a) program and associated tribal advantages in the space remain unclear.

Both Creeksource and ScanTech AI hope to secure initial contracts and quickly deploy ScanTech products by the end of 2025.
