The University of Nevada, Las Vegas William S. Boyd School of Law and the Tribal Leadership Council will offer an Executive Certificate in Tribal Sovereignty and Economic Leadership Program targeting professionals in tribal governance and business strategy.

The program, delivered through UNLV's Indian Nations Gaming & Governance Program, covers legal frameworks, business operations, leadership and finance. San Manuel Cares, the charitable arm of the Yuhaaviatam of San Manuel Nation, provided grant funding for the initiative.

The certification is designed for business professionals and tribal leaders working in tribal economies, government relations and strategic planning. The curriculum integrates academic training with practical applications for navigating complex regulatory environments and driving organizational leadership in tribal contexts.

Eric S. Trevan, a citizen of the Match-e-be-nash-she-wish Band of Pottawatomi and president of aLocal.ai, will teach economics and finance modules. Dr. Crystal Miller of the Walker River Paiute Tribe and Jesse Downs of the Shoalwater Bay Tribe will lead governance instruction. Professor Danielle Finn, director of the gaming and governance program and a citizen of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, will teach federal Indian law.

"We're excited about being able to bring non-faculty instructors to teach and develop material to ensure that we are bringing a Tribal perspective to the program," said Justin Barrett, president of the Tribal Leadership Council.

The program runs July 28-30, 2026, at UNLV's campus, with a reception scheduled for July 27. The Palms, owned by San Manuel Gaming & Hospitality Authority, will host participants.
