The Center for Indian Country Development (CICD) at the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis has appointed three new members to its Leadership Council.
The new appointees are Debbie Atuk (Inupiaq, Kingikmiut), chair of Bering Straits Native Corporation Government Services LLC; Cory Blankenship (Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians), executive director of NAFOA; and Kūhiō Lewis (Native Hawaiian), CEO of the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement.
CICD Director Casey Lozar (Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes) said council members provide critical perspectives on economic research and data opportunities in Native communities.
The CICD, which focuses on advancing economic self-determination for Native nations, has been working since 2022 to address data gaps in Indian Country. The center's Survey of Native Nations aims to provide tribal leaders with comparative financial data to support local economic planning.
Leadership Council members help identify research gaps and barriers to economic growth in Native communities. Minneapolis Fed President Neel Kashkari appoints all council members.
The Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis serves the Ninth Federal Reserve District, covering Montana, North and South Dakota, Minnesota, northwestern Wisconsin, and Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
