The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has awarded a multi-million dollar contract to ASRC Federal Facilities Logistics, a unit of Reston, Va.-based ASRC Federal.
Under the contract, which has a maximum ordering value of $320 million over a five-year period, the ASRC unit will provide repairs, operations, maintenance and engineering (ROME) services to Greenbelt, Md.-based Goddard Space Flight Center. The company will also provide ROME services to the 6188-acre Wallops Flight Facility, including U.S. Naval operations, on Wallops Island, Va., according to a statement from the company. The facilities to be managed include office buildings and technical infrastructures such as clean rooms, integration and test spaces, laboratories, launch facilities, airfields and warehouses.
The contracted work—including facilities operations and maintenance, architect-engineering, construction services and utility management—commences on August 1, 2023.
“We are pleased to build on our long-standing relationship with NASA at Goddard Space Flight Center with this new scope of work,” Jennifer Felix, president and CEO of ASRC Federal said in a statement. “Our team will keep the launch facilities up-to-date and the lights on in the science labs so that NASA can focus on their critical mission of furthering science through space exploration.”
Named for rocketry pioneer Dr. Robert H. Goddard, NASA established the facility in 1959 as its first space flight complex.The complex features more than 3 million square feet of research, development office space. With more than 3,000 employees and 7,000 contractors, Goddard is home to the largest organization of scientists, engineers and technologists who build spacecraft, instruments and new technologies to study the Earth, sun, solar system and the university.
ASRC Federal is the government services subsidiary of the Alaska Native corporation Arctic Slope Regional Corp. (ASRC), which is owned by 13,000 Iñupiat shareholders. ASRC's family of companies also includes a construction holding company with six businesses that perform general construction, civil and infrastructure in Alaska, the continental U.S. and in other countries. ASRC also has a building materials company that serves the state of Alaska.
