The Decolonizing Wealth Project will distribute at least $15 million over three years to expand mental health services for young people, particularly those from marginalized communities.
The New York-based nonprofit will offer two types of grants starting in 2025. Anchor grants of $100,000 to $250,000 target established organizations with at least five years of operation and budgets exceeding $2 million. Opportunity grants of $30,000 to $100,000 will support newer organizations or pilot programs.
U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofits and federally recognized Native American tribes can apply. Melinda French Gates’ philanthropy group, Pivotal, supports the fund.
“Young people today are growing up in a world shaped by climate crises, economic instability, and the complex digital landscape of social media, ” Edgar Villanueva, DWP founder and CEO, said in a statement. “Our youth carry a disproportionate share of these burdens, often without access to the care and support they need.”
Applications opened May 20 through the JustFund platform. Informational webinars are scheduled for June 3 and June 24. The submission portal will close on July 10 at 5 p.m. Pacific time, with funding decisions are expected by Oct. 15 and disbursements beginning Nov. 1.
