Cherokee Federal, the federal contracting division of Cherokee Nation Businesses, has opened a new office in Colorado Springs, strengthening its capabilities to support government partners in the region's defense and intelligence sectors.
The strategic location places Cherokee Federal near major military installations including Peterson Space Force Base, Schriever Space Force Base, Fort Carson and the U.S. Air Force Academy.
"We have a robust history supporting our partners in Colorado Springs, and this expansion signifies a powerful step forward in our ongoing commitment to both customers and our regional employee base," Lindsey Sage, senior vice president and chief performance officer at Cherokee Federal, said in a statement.
The tribal enterprise also announced on April 22 the expansion of its Homeland Security market with the hiring of Roberto Torres as senior director of Homeland Security Solutions. Torres, based in Washington, D.C., brings nearly two decades of experience in federal business development, procurement strategies, cloud solutions and regulatory compliance to the company.
"Roberto is a seasoned professional and well-respected, out-of-the-box thinker who is a natural fit for our organization and strategic growth plans," Steven Bilby, president of Cherokee Federal, said in a statement.
The Colorado Springs expansion follows Cherokee Federal's opening of a 20,000-square-foot office in Tysons Corner, Virginia last year, which accommodates more than 100 employees and is strategically positioned near government clients. The company has earned nearly $2.9 billion in federal awards since 2021, according to market intelligence firm HigherGov.
In Sept. 2024, Cherokee Federal launched Sovereign Capital, a growth capital firm designed to leverage its experience in federal contracting. As its first major investment, CNB acquired a majority stake in Advanced Technology Applications, a Virginia-based company serving federal clients including the Department of Homeland Security, Department of Defense and U.S. Intelligence Community.
Cherokee Federal comprises more than 35 tribally-owned federal contracting businesses and employs over 5,000 people. The company contributes 37% of its profits each month to the Cherokee Nation's general fund, directly supporting critical services such as schools, hospitals, roads and other essential tribal programs.
The company maintained its strong position in the federal contracting sector with its sixth consecutive ranking on Washington Technology's Top 100 list last year, highlighting its leadership in providing solutions to government agencies.
